The city’s iconic KL Hop-On Hop-Off (KL HOHO) sightseeing service has taken a major leap toward sustainability, becoming the first transport operator in Malaysia to roll out buses built on MAN’s Euro VI-specification chassis.
Elang Wah Sdn Bhd (EWSB), the operator of KL HOHO, recently took delivery of six custom-built double-deckers from MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd, with bodywork by Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd.
Powered by MAN’s Euro VI D26 engine delivering 440 hp and 2,250 Nm of torque, the buses promise lower emissions, better fuel efficiency and smoother rides. Paired with ZF’s EcoLife 2 six-speed automatic gearbox, the vehicles are designed for start-stop city traffic while offering quieter operation and improved efficiency.
Each 56-seater bus comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including ABS, ESP, EBS, ASR traction control and tyre pressure monitoring, making them among the safest sightseeing rides on Malaysian roads.
“EWSB’s decision to adopt Euro VI technology ahead of local regulations shows true foresight and leadership. These buses not only reduce harmful emissions but also boost efficiency, cutting costs for operators while supporting Malaysia’s sustainability agenda,” said MAN Malaysia Managing Director Marc Appelt.
Meanwhile, EWSB CEO Tuan Syed Azhar Syed Nadzir said the purchase, its first with MAN in 20 years, was driven by reliability, power and comfort, as well as MAN’s ability to deliver highly customised buses in just five months.
The vehicles are expected to enter KL HOHO service by mid-September, well ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
“Feedback from industry peers and veteran drivers made it clear: MAN was the top choice for performance and safety,” Syed Azhar said, adding that the company plans to expand its fleet further by 2026.
The move positions KL HOHO not just as a city icon for tourists, but also as a pioneer in greener, safer public transport in Malaysia.
